CHARLESTON, SC (WBTW) – Jury selection for the trial of the white former police officer charged for shooting an unarmed black driver begins on Monday.
The shooting happened in April 2015 and made national headlines after a bystander recorded it on a cellphone.
The jury will decide if former North Charleston officer Michael Slager is guilty of murder in the death of Walter Scott. The shooting began after Slager pulled Scott over for a broken taillight.
Slager’s attorney Andy Savage says the video is brief and doesn’t show the whole event. Savage said other parts of the video show the two men fighting.
