JOHNSONVILLE, S.C.(WBTW)- A Johnsonville high school senior used a creative approach Saturday evening to get the word out about the needs of senior citizens.
Lucas Paquette says the purpose of the event is to get the voice out there that senior citizens need entertainment too.
“The background to it is to raise awareness for a senior center here in Johnsonville,” said Paquette.
From bright dresses to dapper suits, senior citizens filled the Wellman club with all smiles and laughter.
Linda Johnson, a partner in sponsoring the event says she was overjoyed at Paquette’s request.
“He told me in his vision about doing a senior prom. I thought it was just awesome. A young person coming to me wanting to do something for the senior population, I embraced it. I said go for it,” said Johnson.
Being proactive and reaching out to the community was Paquette’s next step in making this event a success.
He says the event cost just under five-thousand dollars. However donations played a major role, having to only come out of pocket with about thirty bucks.
For every prom king, crowns a queen.
“A center for seniors is desperately needed in Johnsonville,” said prom queen Mildred Hughes.
