MYRTLE BEACH – Bryar Johnson threw six shutout innings and struck out eight as Carolina Forest beat St. James 5-0 in a battle of state-ranked high school baseball teams.
The Panthers, who rank No. 1 in Class 4A, scored four runs in the second inning. Hunter Baiden homered. Patrick Orlando also drove in a run.
St. James ranked 9th in Class 3A entering the matchup.
