Many would consider South Carolina the heart of the Bible belt.

So it’s not uncommon to find those who feel strongly about their faith and some religious expression has, literally, made its way to some local streets.

“The message is great and you can’t get the word out enough,” mentioned Lisa King.

Odds are if you drive around Florence you’ve probably seen the Jesus graffiti.

“I just started noticing it over the past couple of weeks,” King said.

However, for the past year people who live nearby or just driving through couldn’t help but notice it.

In different areas of the city and county of Florence, in some form or fashion, you’ll find messages about Jesus painted on the roads from “Jesus, Son of God” to “Jesus is Lord”

King owns the forest lake greenhouses on Alligator Road, about a mile from some of the religious graffiti.

“It’s been on stop signs and roads…and various places.  It’s placed in an inappropriate area,” King explained.

Like many residents we spoke to in that area, King doesn’t mind the message but the way it’s expressed.

“Our tax dollars have to pay for proper removal,” she stated.

“Spray painting other people’s property is probably not the right thing to do but believing in God is the right thing to do.  We just got to be able to combine those two,” King added

News13 reached out the both Florence city and county Public Works about possible cleanup or removal of the graffiti, but did not get an answer.
