A man has been charged after he tried to push a Myrtle Beach tackle shop manager off of a pier while intoxicated, police say.
A police report from the Myrtle Beach Police Department says officers received a call from the tackle shop at Pier 14, located at 1306 N. Ocean Boulevard, around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday for a disorderly person who would not leave the area. The caller was still on the phone with police, when he left the phone behind to deal with the person.
Police received another call shortly after with a report that a disorderly person had tried to push the shop’s manager over a railing and off of the pier, according to the release. Officers arrived on scene around 8:41 p.m., where they found the manager and an employee holding the suspect face down. The suspect was arrested and escorted off of the pier. He was initially charged with public intoxication pending further investigation and taken to the Myrtle Beach Jail.
According to the report, two employees reported that the intoxicated man entered the shop demanding they return his merchandise. One employee, who was working the register, reported not holding any merchandise for the suspect and said the suspect became increasingly irate and profane. The other employee said they stepped in and asked the suspect to lower his voice, but the suspect became more disorderly. At this time, one employee went to get the shop’s manager.
When the manager arrived, he told the suspect to leave the pier or he would call the police, the report also says. The suspect would not leave and Myrtle Beach police were called.
The report adds surveillance video from inside the shop shows the suspect pushed past the manager to go out onto the pier and the manager and another person followed, where the altercation continued.
An employee, two other witnesses, and the manager, reported the suspect pushed the manager in the chest and shoulders, and against a railing of a pier, where the manager’s legs came up off of the ground, according to the report.
Myrtle Beach Police Department booking records show Ronald Eugene Glendenning, 52, is charged with assault/assault and battery in the first degree, public intoxication, and disorderly conduct in connection with the case.
