Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the scene of a serious 3-vehicle crash that sent three people to the hospital after the collision on SC 78, also known as Juniper Bay Road.

The crash happened just before 2:45 pm Thursday and involved a truck crashing into the back of an SUV, which then crashed into a car near Hampton Bridge Road.

The wreck was triggered when a school bus was stopped to let children off and a vehicle approaching from the behind slammed into waiting vehicles near the school bus, said Brian Van Aernem of Horry County Fire Rescue.

Three people in the crash were taken by ambulances to Grand Strand Regional Hospital, Van Aernem said.

Juniper Bay Road was closed nearly 2 hours after the wreck, but reopened around 4:30 pm, Horry County Fire officials said.

The SC Highway Patrol reported that another wreck also happened at the same time very close by, at Delayna Court  on Juniper Bay Road.
