RAEFORD, N.C. – The Hoke County Sheriff’s Office is investigating multiple instances where “improvised chemical pressure bombs” were used or found in Hoke and Robeson counties.

The Sheriff’s Office received a report after mailbox in the 2700 block of North Shannon Road in Shannon was damaged July 20.
That same day, a similar report came in but the explosive device did not fully detonate.
Hoke County investigators said improvised chemical pressure bombs were used in both instances.
People who live in the area say hearing about it makes them nervous.
“It sort of makes you wonder because normally it is quiet out here,” Wanda Chavis said. “Now you don’t know if you want to go check the mail or not.”
Similar instances occurred in Robeson County, authorities said.
A criminal investigation has been opened into the matter.
