MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)-The efforts to improve the Five Points area of Myrtle Beach continue and a lot of it is just talk at this point.

One business owner told News13 Five Points gets a bad rap for really no reason. He said the few issues they’ve had there could happen anywhere and it’s time for people to look past that.

Averil Horton has been a hair dresser in Five Points for more than five years.

He says he’s been there since before its bad reputation and now, he’s just waiting for it to blow over.

He loves his customers, enjoys meeting tourists and just wishes more locals would give him a chance.

Horton is the vice president of the Five Points association. In his free time he’s trying to make changes for the area but says he still could use the cities help.

“This is the first thing people see when they come to Myrtle Beach so we need to make it beautified a little bit. Make it to where people want to come back to when they come through and say ‘oh we need to come back to this area’ that’s what we need, that’s what we want. We want business owners to come in and invest down here.”

If you want to go to that meeting there are two discussion times. One is at 10 Wednesday morning, the other at 2 p.m. It’ll be at ground zero on Chester Street. Employees with the DRC plan to talk about improvement projects for the area.
