To say Saturday morning’s lane closure on I-95, will be a headache for drivers, would be pretty accurate.
“It’s like; I wanted to find another route,” mentioned Brenda Pearson, who was traveling from Fayetteville to visit family in Kingstree.
“Wow man, that’s going to put a hamper on my travel because I have a daughter living in Raleigh so we travel the roads…she has a sick child so whenever they have an operation scheduled we run up the road to be there with the family,” added John Sikes, on the road from Florida.
SCDOT crews will replace a bridge deck on one span over the Great Pee Dee River, on one northbound lane near the Florence-Dillon County line.
It will close for 45 days or just over 6 weeks.
“You know I mean we’re going to be stuck in traffic. Just thinking we have to go back now. So in a month’s time we might check on the map to see if there’s another going,” said Donna Cyr, who was traveling from Canada down towards Florida with her husband.
“I’ll be catching something from a different route, that’s for sure,” Sikes mentioned.
This is not the first time crews have shut down a lane, once for a day in December and again in January for repairs to the same bridge.
You could see it as a collective sigh of either frustration or relief.
“I’m glad to know now because we’ll try to find another way down,” explained Donna Cyr.
Again, work will begin Saturday at midnight and will reopen April 21st.
