MYRTLE BEACH, SC –  Ocean Lakes Family Campground will be diving into its 16th year of hosting the Polar Bear Plunge on New Year’s Eve. This annual tradition will take place on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 3 p.m., beginning at the Oceanfront Observation Deck. The adventure is open to all guests staying at the campground.

What started with only three individuals has now become an annual tradition with hundreds of Ocean Lakes’ guests braving the frigid Atlantic and donating non-perishable items to give to the local food bank.  “We are astonished every year to see the growing number of guests that are willing to take the Polar Bear Plunge,” said Barb Krumm, Director of Marketing and Public Relations at Ocean Lakes Family Campground. “This group activity gives the participants a chance to create a family memory while freezin’ for a reason to help local charities.”

Those participating in the Polar Bear Plunge must bring two non-perishable food items that will be given to South Strand Helping Hand. The $6 yearly membership fee will include entry into the Polar Bear Plunge, a T-shirt, and warm refreshments in the Recreation Center.

Participants must sign up by noon at the Recreation Office. Registration is required.
