Hundreds of police officers met at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center for a briefing by city officials on how to prepare for this weekend.
Police officials say the focus this weekend is to be “fair, but firm.”
Myrtle Beach Police Chief Warren Gall said not only will Myrtle Beach Police wear body cameras, but every single person will have cell phones and be able to record.
He told officers to not be the “spark” that sets off problems for the community.
The room set aside for the officers at the convention center was so packed they had to open the doors into adjacent rooms.
Myrtle Beach Police Lieutenant Joey Crosby said there are at least 500 officers including local and regional that will be working this weekend.
Myrtle Beach Mayor John Rhodes, Myrtle Beach City Manager John Pedersen, and Police Chief Warren Gall all addressed the officers.
Chief Gall told officers to be ready for anything; threats and assaults happened to officers in the past, but he said the majority of people in town this weekend obey the law.
He says it may be a big weekend, but to treat people like it is any other day of the year.
City officials say they are happy for the extra support.
“I’m appreciative to both their agencies and these folks as individuals. You know coming here and spending their Memorial Day with us is a sacrifice and we do really appreciate it again I’m just humbled that we got the response that we did,” said City Manager John Pedersen.
The officers will work 12 hour shifts starting Friday all across Myrtle Beach.
