MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – More than 250 cars filled the parking lot of Burkey’s Grill on Sunday afternoon for the 6th annual Theresa Roach and Diana Thurmond Cancer Charity Car Show.

Cars of all makes and models were shown and dozens of awards were given out including “Best Corvette ’84 and Before,” “Best Interior” and “Best Paint.” There was also a Survivor’s Choice Award, given to the car chosen by cancer survivors at the event.

The car show began six years ago with only seven cars. Organizer, Christopher Roach, said he wanted to do something to make a difference after both his grandmother and mother passed away from cancer.

“I was given a choice: Do I cry about it or do I do something about it?” said Roach. “We’ve got hundreds of cars here, we’re raising all kinds of money, we’re having fun, raising awareness and we’re doing what we can to save lives. We don’t want anyone else to die from cancer.”

Proceeds from Sunday’s event will go to the local American Cancer Society organization.
