CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW)- The Chanticleers were given a warm welcome from fans as they paraded through Downtown Conway Friday afternoon.
The parade followed the team’s historic championship win at the College World Series. Hundreds of people lined the streets to welcome the team and say they’ve never experienced anything like it.
“In 26 years, this has been by far the most exciting, greatest thing to happen to Conway that I can remember,” Mark Stanley of Trademark Home Exteriors said.
People lined Main Street, Laurel Street and Third Avenue South chanting go CCU and wearing teal hats, shirts and other school memorabilia. Many families brought their kids out to experience the festivities.
“This is history, they don’t realize it yet but someday down the road when they’re in school cheering for CCU, they’ll realize they got to be a part of the first time they brought it home, Laura Murdock said.
Others who attended the parade say they’re not even sports fans but watched every single CCU game. They told News13 what the team brings to the community is even more special than a championship.
“Go CCU and just keep being the wonderful school that you are and making the great young adults that are coming out of there. We’re just so happy that with all the things going on in the world today. I’m so happy for them,” Julia Klinefelter said.
The team motorcade continued on to CCU to the main entrance of TD Sports Complex on West Chanticleer Drive.
