People along the Grand Strand joined millions of people across the country who took to the streets on Saturday to demand an end to gun violence, in the wake of the deadly Parkland school shooting.
Hundreds of people of all ages took part in the March for our Lives protest in the Market Common. Protesters started at the movie theater and marched all the way around the Market Common, signs in hand, and chanting for stricter gun control.
Students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland organized the national demonstration. Those who joined the March for our Lives in Myrtle Beach, including Mary Hubacheck of Garden City, said they wanted to show their support for the Florida teens, and push lawmakers to pass legislation that will make it harder to acquire firearms.
“Everybody cares about their kids, and their grandkids, and their community. Nobody wants to live in fear,” said Hubachek. “They need to take the necessary steps to make this country a safe place.”
