Hundreds of people celebrated Earth Day by spreading out across the South Strand to clean up their community.
Murrells Inlet 2020 organized the 27th annual Spring Tide celebration.
Volunteers covered the entire inlet, picking up any sort of litter in sight. Spring Tide Volunteers also gathered in Garden City and Huntington Beach to pick up trash there.
Afterward, volunteers enjoyed a party at Hot Fish Club, with a free barbecue and chowder cook-off.
“We’re lucky to have the Inlet. We’re lucky to have the river. We’re lucky to have where we live. So it really becomes more personal for everyone to make sure that we get to keep enjoying this place and keep having the inlet,” said Murrells Inlet 2020 Executive Director Meredith Millen.
During last year’s Spring Tide, volunteers collected 11 tons of trash.
