Hundreds attend 26th annual Stamp and Postcard Show

The timeless hobby of stamp collecting drew hundreds of people to Myrtle Beach this weekend.

More than 300 people filled the RiverWalk Inn on Fantasy Harbour Boulevard on Saturday and Sunday, for the 26th annual Stamp and Postcard Show. Almost a dozen local vendors displayed their collections, some of them with stamps worth almost $10,000. Show Director Donn Ebert said stamps are more than a hobby. He called them remnants of history that people of all ages can learn from. “You can learn the whole history of the United States through postage stamps. And we try to encourage young people into the hobby, but right now there’s too many electronic gadgets to keep them occupied,” he said.

According to Ebert, stamp collecting is a relatively young hobby, since stamps as we know them were first issued in 1840.
