MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Horry County Fire Rescue has reopened Highway 544 after firefighters battled a blaze on Kings Road Thursday afternoon.
Highway 544 was shut down at Kings Road in Myrtle Beach for approximately 45 minutes due to a water supply line crossing the highway as crews attempted to extinguish a house fire on Kings Road.
Horry County Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Justin Gibbins says the fire started in the back addition of the home and was 50% involved when crews arrived at the burning house. Kings Road does not have a fire hydrant, so firefighters had to run a water line across Highway 544, prompting the road closure.
Battalion Chief Brian VanAernem says the fire appears electrical and started in the addition.
Two adults and two children have been displaced by the fire, and The Red Cross has been called in to assist the family.
One woman was been transported to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and an anxiety attack.
The Myrtle Beach, Conway and Carolina Forest Fire Departments assisted Horry County Fire Rescue with the blaze.
