Horry County teacher arrested, charged for Surfside Beach burglaries

SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Surfside Beach Police arrested and charged Bion Legrand Shoemaker III for a recent string of residential and vehicle burglaries in Surfside Beach.

According to police, those burglaries happened over the past several months and Shoemaker has been charged with three counts of 2nd degree burglary to a residence and one count of auto breaking.

Surfside Beach Police Chief Rodney Keziah said, “We are pleased to be able to recover some of the victim’s property in these cases. This is still a very fluid investigation. We anticipate recovering more property and possibly making additional charges.”

According to the Associated Press, Horry County Schools representative Teal Harding said Shoemaker started at St. James High School in 2011 and transferred this year to Socastee High School, where he teaches special education.

Hardin said via email that Shoemaker has been placed on administrative leave.
