MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – According to a release from county officials,the curfew for unincorporated Horry County remains in effect from this evening at 6 p.m. until Oct. 10 at 6 a.m.
Director of Public Information Lisa Bourcier also says evacuation orders are still in effect as the governor is the only one who can rescind the orders and has not yet done so.
The release also said that over 163 roads in Horry County were closed or impassable and as of this afternoon.
As numbers of people in shelters have diminished from 971 as of 6 p.m. last night to just 468 as of noon Sunday, seven area shelters are being consolidated. In addition, Beach Church located at 557 George Bishop Parkway, Myrtle Beach will open at 4 p.m. to serve as a shelter for potential river flooding residents.
Properties along the Waccamaw River & Intracoastal Waterway are asked to monitor river levels closely as they are rising fast. The rivers are currently at major flood stage and could continue to rise. Flooding will be similar to the October 2015 floods, officials say. Residents in these areas should prepare now if they plan on evacuating their property.
There continues to be widespread power outages throughout Horry County. Utility crews are working to restore power as quickly as is safely possible. It is estimated that it will take several days to fully restore electrical services throughout the county.
Horry County damage assessment teams began at 8 a.m. this morning. There are still widespread reports of downed power lines and trees. Horry County officials are strongly encouraging people to stay off the roads and continue to remind drivers to avoid driving around barricades and never drive through standing water.
