South Carolina Department of Transportation treated all bridges in Horry County Tuesday, as people reported encounters with ice during the morning commute.
Shannon Welch, with SCDOT said trucks will treat bridges as often as every two hours, as needed.
Salt trucks will treat bridges throughout Tuesday and into Wednesday morning. The next truck shift will run 8:00 p.m. Tuesday until 8:00 a.m. Wednesday.
Crews are using salt to keep roads from freezing. Some spots are being treated with brine.
The department’s main concern is bridges and overpasses in Horry County, however Welch advises drivers to take caution no matter where they travel as temperatures remain freezing. Welch also noted concrete areas freeze before asphalt.
