MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A release by congressman Tim Rice announced Tuesday that Horry County received a $9.7 million grant from the US Department of Transportation to improve railroad lines to more efficiently move freight through Horry and Marion Counties.
Rice says the grant, called “Moving the Carolinas Forward”, will create more capacity on R.J. Corman’s Carolina Lines by improving efficiency to better serve residents in and around the Seventh District.
“With this new funding, freight can travel more quickly and efficiently through Horry County, allowing businesses in our district to be more competitive while reducing the price of goods for residents,” said Rice.
The release says the railroad runs between Mullins, Chadbourn and Conway and it has not been consistently operational in five years prior to re-opening this year after a change of ownership.
