An Horry County Policeman was charged with DUI just a week after a now ex-policeman allegedly fled from the SC Highway Patrol in a chase and then ran off, authorities say.

Buddy Ladd Kalin, age 54, who was a police officer assigned to the Myrtle Beach Airport, was arrested early Tuesday morning, according to data on J. Reuben Long Detention Center website and Lt. Raul Denis of the Horry County Police.

On Wednesday, officials said Kalin was no longer a police officer with Horry County.

“Mr. Buddy Ladd Kalin’s employment with Horry County Police ended this afternoon,” said Lisa H. Bourcier, a spokesperson with Horry County.

Kalin, of Wintercreeper Drive in Longs, was arrested by a SC Highway Patrol Trooper and was booked at 3:23 am on Tuesday, according to public records.  It’s not clear where the arrest took place or the circumstances surrounding the arrest.

Kalin was released around 10:30 am Tuesday on a personal recognizance bond after paying a $997 fee at J. Reuben Long Detention Center, according to public records.

In addition to being a policeman, Kalin also appears to be a DJ and karaoke host under the name “Buddie Ladd,” according to his Facebook page.

He describes himself as “Full service DJ / KJ service in the Horry County area of South Carolina. Specializing in oldies music and the over 40 crowds.”

Also, last Monday night, Bradley Everett Boggs, age 39, then a patrolman for Horry County Police, led SC Troopers on a chase before bailing out on foot and running off, authorities say.
