CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – The Horry County Police Department brought on six new police officers.

The department posted this picture to twitter Monday morning.

We’ve been tracking vacancies in the department for over a year now.

Last week, Chief Joseph Hill told News13 the department had 12 vacancies and 6 people would be graduating from the academy soon.

Hill said the department has an additional 8 to 10 going to the academy in March.

“We need additional boots on the ground. So far, the county council has been outstanding at helping us close those gaps and giving us those additional positions, but I do know this is a big county with a lot of needs,” said Hill.

Hill says he plans to ask for more officers during the Horry County Council Spring Budget Retreat.
