With five new schools slated to open in August 2017, Horry County Schools will hold a series of meetings to present proposed attendance line changes for the 2017-2018 school year.
Lines for Carolina Forest and Socastee will also be included in the series of public meetings.
Parents and community members are invited to attend the following meetings and provide officials with feedback:
- Tuesday, July 19, at Forestbrook Midde School, from 5-7 p.m.;
- Wednesday, July 20, at Forestbrook Elementary School, from 5-7 p.m.;
- Thursday, July 21, at River Oaks Elementary School, for parents of students attending River Oaks Elementary School, Carolina Forest Elementary School, Ocean Bay Elementary School, and Ocean Bay Middle School, 5-7 p.m.;
- Monday, July 25, at Lakewood Elementary School, from 5-7 p.m.; and
- Thursday, July 28, at Socastee Elementary School, from 5-7 p.m.

The current plan is to move about 86 students from Cape Landing Apartments, Stonebridge, St. Charles Place, Kingston Ridge, Oak Forest and Harbour Town Subdivisions from the Lakewood Elementary attendance zone to the Socastee Elementary attendance zone.CLICK FOR MAP: Proposed Changes for Students Currently Zoned to Attend Forestbrook Middle School
The existing plan is to move 421 students residing in the Forestbrook Middle School attendance zone to attend a new middle school in the Socastee area, which is not yet named. Beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, the new middle school in Socastee would include all neighborhoods currently assigned to Lakewood Elementary except for Cape Landing Apartments, Stonebridge, St. Charles Place, Kingston Ridge, Oak Forest and Harbour Town Subdivisions, which would be included in the Forestbrook Middle School attendance zone.CLICK FOR MAP: Proposed Changes for Students Currently Zoned to Attend Ocean Bay Middle School
The current proposal is to move approximately 814 students from the Ocean Bay Middle attendance zone to attend a new middle school in the Carolina Forest attendance area, which has not yet been named. The new middle school in Carolina Forest would include all neighborhoods currently assigned to Carolina Forest Elementary, as well as some neighborhoods currently assigned to River Oaks Elementary (Legends, Burcale Road area, Sago Plantation, Pine Island, and Emerald Lakes) and some neighborhoods currently assigned to Ocean Bay Elementary (Summerlyn, Plantation Lakes, and Waterbridge). The remaining neighborhoods currently assigned to River Oaks Elementary would attend Ocean Bay Middle, as would the remaining neighborhoods currently assigned to Ocean Bay Elementary.
