CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – An Horry County man received a 40-year prison sentence for an assault of a woman.

Robert Lee Myers, 44, pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary, armed robbery, and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature in connection with an incident on August 18, 2016 involving a 71-year-old woman, according to a press release from the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

Myers was sentenced to serve 40 years in prison by a circuit court judge. He received 30 years for the armed robbery charge and 20 years for the assault, which will run concurrently.

“The victim, a 71-year-old woman at the time of the incident, saw a light on in her property at 2 a.m. and went to check on the property,” stated the release. “She surprised Myers in her home and he threw her to the ground, used an electrical cord to tie her up, cut her clothing from her and sexually assaulted her.”

Myers then allegedly forced the woman “to scrub herself with bleach as he demanded more money from her.” The victim was able to get away and run down the street, where Myrtle Beach police officers were working a traffic crash.

The officers then went to the victim’s home with here, where Myers allegedly left on a bicycle, said the release. Officers reportedly found DNA at the scene and linked Myers to the incident.
