An Horry County man pleaded guilty to a federal firearm charge on Wednesday.
According to a press release from Sherri A. Lydon United States District Attorney for the District of South Carolina, 46-year-old Glendell Long, a/k/a “Okera Uzoma,” of Longs, pleaded guilty in federal court to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
“Evidence presented to the court showed that in March 2018, officers with the Horry County Police Department were conducting an investigation into an unrelated crime when they discovered an American Tactical Omni Hybrid multi-caliber rifle and several rounds of .223 caliber and 7.62 mm ammunition in Long’s home,” said the release. “Federal law prohibits Long from possessing a firearm or ammunition based on prior felony convictions for pointing and presenting a firearm, assault and battery with intent to kill, and unlawful carrying of a pistol. Long also has a prior federal conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm.”
Long faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison, the release also said. A United States District Judge accepted his plea and “will sentence him after receiving and reviewing a presentencing report prepared by the United States Probation Office.”
“The charges against Long were the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Horry County Police Department,” adds the release. “The case was prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project CeaseFire initiative, which aggressively prosecutes firearm cases.”
