CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Horry County Council was updated Tuesday night on debris management and removal efforts following Hurricane Matthew.
Horry County Spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier told News13 the county’s current contract covers the removal of vegetative debris from county roads – such as trees.
During a presentation to council, officials also relayed the need for the pick-up of bulky debris in some areas impacted from flooding following the storm – such as carpet, appliances and drywall. Many people in the county, they said, have been hauling the debris by themselves to recycling centers and to the landfill.
In the days following the hurricane, officials say they saw the need for “targeted curbside collection, based on data from door-to-door assessments, case management and drone footage.” Bourcier says about 400 to 500 homes needing the help were identified throughout the county in areas impacted by the flooding.
Bourcier says a plan will be put together to address the issue – including a list of areas and streets. Bourcier says the pick-up will not cover state roads, only county roads in certain areas impacted by the flooding.
