MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The Horry County Literacy Council has moved to a temporary location in Carolina Forest.

HCLC is conducting business as usual at the Goodwill Community Services Center at 2148 Oakheart Rd in the Shoppes at Forest Square.  The Literacy Council was forced to relocate after the Horry County School District voted to begin demolition of the Myrtle Beach Family Center at 3101 Oak St. in Myrtle Beach to make way for a new school.  “The transition is going smoothly”, says Executive Director Lorraine.  “We are lucky because we already have a relationship with and office space in the Goodwill Community Center.”

As for the future, The Literacy Council is in discussions with the United Methodist Church for office space at 923 N. Kings Hwy in Myrtle Beach. “The Church has a wonderful space available which is currently under renovation and will make a wonderful working space for the Literacy Council,” says Woodward.  Woodward says the timetable for a final move to the permanent office in Myrtle Beach is about 90 days depending on the progress of the renovation.  In the meantime, The Literacy Council is very comfortable at the Goodwill Community Center, according to Woodward.  “The organization is indebted to Goodwill which has welcomed us with open arms,” says Woodward.

The Literacy Council continues to offer services to the community and can be reached at 843-839-1695.
