MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)- This new year marks a big milestone for Habitat for Humanity of Horry county. The organization is celebrating its 25th year and building its 126th home. The first house of 2016 will be going to Billy and Keondra Lewis and their two children Jacob and JaN’yra, For years the family said they paid too much for rent. When things broke they were never fixed, and their son suffers from severe asthma and the homes commonly had mold problems.

After struggling to make ends meet and feeling defeated, Billy Lewis said as a dad and husband he had to find a better way. The Lewis’ applied to the habitat home-ownership program in February 2014, looking for something better for their family without even knowing what that would mean. Almost two years later, they’re getting a brand new, affordable home and Billy Lewis said he still can’t believe its happening.

“To actually say wow, this is what I worked for, this is the sweat and tears that I put into this so I could get this and I can’t wait to walk in my home and just say AH! I can call home, I can be at peace at ease, I really don’t have to worry about struggling anymore.”

The new home is off Mistletoe Court and should be ready within the next few months.
