Horry County chopper tours to be based at airports

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) – Horry County Council has agreed that any new companies that want to give tourists helicopter tours of the Myrtle Beach area will have to be based at public airports.

Media outlets report the council approved the new ordinance Tuesday affecting companies locating in the county. In recent years residents have complained about the noise from tour operations located near their homes. The new ordinance has been in the works for about a year.

One company already operating tours can continue to do so. The ordinance allows Helicopter Adventures to operate from its landing site near Broadway at the Beach through August of 2023 when the company’s lease expires.
