Horry County Schools announced Wednesday afternoon its short list of firms eligible to bid on the construction of five new schools.
District officials confirm nine design-build teams submitted materials in response to its RFQ for construction. A committee evaluated and scored all nine proposals from Thompson Turner Construction, a division of Thompson Construction Group, Inc.; First Floor Energy Positive; The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company; H.G. Reynolds Company, Inc.; Ajax Building Corporation Southeast; W.M. Jordan Company, Inc.; Edifice, Inc; China Construction America, Inc.; and M.B. Kahn Construction Co., Inc.
Four firms qualified to submit official bids to Horry County Schools, after receiving collective scores of 85 or higher on evaluations from committee members. The firms include: M.B. Kahn Construction Co., Inc.; Thompson Turner Construction, a division of Thompson Construction Group, Inc.; First Floor Energy Positive; and The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company.
“The above listed teams’ evaluation scores and rankings reflect the District’s emphasis on the ability to deliver high performance, energy positive schools,” officials said in an announcement Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the committee agreed that each qualified firm will submit a list of two to five specific projects that it will submit a proposal for by June 10. If there are less than two proposers for a project, the committee will reconvene.
Ara Heinz, Horry County Schools procurement specialist, says the committee will re-evaluate the official bids and make a recommendation to the Horry County Board of Education for approval. DeFeo says the district expects to make a decision on contract awards within two months.
The district hopes to have the five schools built and open by Summer 2017.
