Horry County Schools plans to release its short list of design teams approved to submit bids for the construction of five new schools.
Officials expect to make that short list public on the Horry County Schools website on Wednesday.
An RFQ Selection Committee spent about two hours Tuesday afternoon evaluating and discussing preliminary proposals and quotes submitted to the district. Horry County School Board Chairman Joe DeFeo told News13 nine companies submitted plans.
Following the closed-door discussions, RFQ Selection Committee members evaluated and ranked each of the individual plans. Officials say proposals that averaged 85 points or higher qualified for the opportunity to submit official construction and design bids to Horry County Schools for consideration.
“Probably closer to two months we will have the finals chosen as to who is going to design and build,” DeFeo said. “This is just not the architects. We’re actually selecting a design-build team, which will include the architects and contractors.”
Ara Heinz, Horry County Schools procurement specialist, says the design-build teams on the short list will have the opportunity to tell the district which two projects they’d prefer to submit on by June 10. Heinz says companies can choose to submit bids for up to all five projects.
Heinz says the committee will hold another evaluation of official proposals and make a recommendation to the Horry County School Board for approval. She says the district could end up with one to five design-build teams working on the new schools.
