Metro Police are investigating a house that contained dozens of animals living in poor conditions.
Police say they were first called to the house on Ben Butler Road early Wednesday morning and found four cats in need of immediate veterinary care.
Investigators made contact with the two residents who refused a welfare check of the rest of the home. Police came back Thursday with a search warrant and found 28 more animals living in distress.
Seven dogs believed to be Chihuahuas, 19 cats of various ages and breeds, one gray squirrel, and one African spur thigh tortoise were removed.
Police say all the animals are getting veterinary care. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending for the owners of the home.
