NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A hearing between the City of North Myrtle Beach and a company that wants to operate helicopter tours has been continued, according to city officials.
The two parties were scheduled to meet for a hearing Tuesday to dispute a denial from the North Myrtle Beach Board of Zoning Appeals.
Windy Hill Water Park first asked permission to operate the helicopters from a parcel of land along US-17 back in June. The request for a special exemption to allow the rides was met with serious concern from city residents.
The North Myrtle Beach Board of Zoning Appeals denied the request in June and shot down resubmitted plans for operations from a second nearby location in September.
“The applicant moved the hearing before the Circuit Court be continued to allow the matter to be mediated as requrired under the statute if the applicant elects to move forward with the decision,” City of North Myrtle Beach Spokesman Pat Dowling told News13.
Dowling says the Circuit Court granted the motion to continue the appeal until the matter was mediated. At this time, a mediation date has not been scheduled.
