Have You Heard, today (1/8) is another Golden Anniversary for Beatles fans.

The Beatles had 20 number-one hits in the U.S. Their 11th was “We Can Work It Out” and it hit number-one 50 years ago today (1/8/1966).

The group also had 19 number-one albums in this country. Their seventh was Rubber Soul and it also hit number-one 50 years ago today.

Game show host Bob Eubanks (The Newlywed Game and at least half a dozen others) promoted some West Coast Beatles concerts.

He’s 78 today.

Physicist Stephen Hawking is 74.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average first closed above the 2,000 mark 29 years ago today (1/8/1987).

It took more than 14 years for the Dow to go from 1,000 (11/14/1972) to 2,000 but just over four years (4/17/1991) to hit 3,000.

With the Dow now around the 17,000 mark, the index has grown about 744% in the past 29 years.

Compare that to a 109% inflation rate in this country during the same time period.

President George Washington delivered the first State of the Union address 226 years ago today (1/8/1790).

President George H.W. Bush collapsed during a state dinner in Tokyo 24 years ago today (1/8/1992).

One cable network came very close to reporting erroneously that the President had died.

President George W. Bush signed the No Child Left Behind act into law 14 years ago today (1/8/2002).

Today marks the fifth anniversary of when Jared Loughner killed six people and wounded 13 others in Tucson, Arizona.

Among those killed was a Chief U.S. District Court Judge and a nine-year-old girl.

Among those wounded was then-Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ).

Loughner now serves a Life plus 140 years prison sentence.

If Elvis Presley were alive (and some contend he is), he’d be 81 today.

Today is also “Argyle Day” and “Bubble Bath Day.”
