These days, it seems “revitalization” is the theme for most downtown areas around here.
Most towns feel it’s a way to attract visitors and business.
Recently, Hartsville City Council approved $50,000 under the hospitality tax revenue to go towards the Center Theatre, which was built during the great depression.
The money will go towards roof repairs and an upgrade to the atrium.
“[We] went through a major renovation in 1998…at that time we went from a movie theater to a full performing arts center. Since that time we haven’t done a lot of major repairs to the theatre and we are starting to have an issue with roofs been leaking and where they’ve been patched,” mentioned House Manager Kim Crawford.
The goal is to be able to compete and to continue to bring in money to the city.
