HARTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – A Hartsville Middle School student has been charged for disturbing schools.
Officers have charged a 12-year-old female student with disturbing schools after threats were reportedly directed towards Hartsville Middle School on Friday, according to Lt. Mark Blair, with Hartsville police. The threat was reportedly communicated over phone message and Snapchat.
Blair also said police later determined the incident to be a hoax and that no one was in danger.
The Darlington County School District released as statement on Friday afternoon, saying:
We were made aware this morning of what appeared to be a threatening message posted on social media. Police investigated the situation and have determined that it was all a hoax. Police identified and spoke with the individual who created the hoax. No harm was intended, and no one was in danger. We take all threats seriously, and we greatly appreciate our police department for responding and investigating so thoroughly. The safety of our students and staff is always our highest priority.
