COLUMBIA, S.C. (WBTW) – On Monday one Hartsville resident discovered he had won $250,000.

Fitzgerald Peterson bought the winning $500 Frenzy ticket Friday at the Piggly Wiggly on S. 5th Street, but forgot about it, leaving the lottery ticket in his car over the weekend.

He told South Carolina Education Lottery officials he cried when he realized he had won a quarter of a million dollars.

Peterson plans to surprise his kids by helping them with their college educations with his winnings.

As of Monday, one $250,000 still remains in the $500 Frenzy game.  The odds of taking home the big prize are 1 in 696,000.
