Hartsville makes first step in Sunday alcohol sales vote

HARTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – On Tuesday, the Hartsville City Council gave overwhelming preliminary approval to an ordinance to put   a public referendum on the Sunday sale of alcohol on the November general election ballot.

According to the city, only one council member voted against it.   Council combined two ordinances, one that would allow restaurants and bars to sell alcohol on Sunday and other for grocery and convenience stores.

Even if city voters approve Sunday sales of alcohol, liquor stores will not be able to sell on Sunday, because they are controlled by state law.

There will be second reading and a public hearing on the ordinance at council’s meeting in March.
