HARTSVILLE (WBTW) – Hartsville High School has named Yusuf English as the new head coach of the boys’ varsity basketball program.

English has previous coaching experience at Denmark-Olar High School in Bamberg County. He led the Vikings to a 22-5 record and the Region 5-A championship in 2015-16. His overall record at Denmark-Olar was 46-25.

Dr. Charlie Burry, principal of Hartsville High School, said English’s experiences will prove valuable inside and outside of the classroom.

“Coach English was extremely well-prepared for his interview, and I believe that is reflective of his coaching philosophy,” Burry said. “His teams will also play hard, be disciplined and fundamentally sound, and his players will contribute positively to our school climate. It was of great importance to me that his references spoke highly of him as an English teacher as well as a basketball coach. I believe that Coach English will be a dynamic addition to our faculty as well as our athletic department.”

English is a 2005 graduate of Allen University with a Bachelor of Arts in English. He will also teach in the English department at Hartsville High School.
