HARTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – The Hartsville Police Department says officers made multiple arrests and served several citations during a safety checkpoint in late February.
The evening of Feb. 26, officers conducted safety checkpoints at different locations in the city in efforts to increase the safety for community members, according to a release from the department.
“Drunk and drugged drivers pose a hazard to everyone, and uninsured drivers make accidents more expensive for those involved in collisions,” the release states.
Officers arrested two drunk drivers and charged two drivers that had open alcohol containers in their cars, the release says. The department served four arrest warrants in total and issued citations for other offences:
- Three drug charges issued
- Five caught driving without a license, or under suspension
- Three with child restraint/child endangerment violations
- Three with no insurance or had failed to register their cars
- Several other citations issued for other minor traffic violations
The department plans to hold more safety checkpoints in the future, to ensure drivers are in compliance with the law, and increase safety for area residents.
Officers ask that drivers ensure registration and insurance cards are current and easily available, and always carry their license. In addition, the department suggests drivers slow down and do not use cell phones when driving or approaching checkpoints to keep officers and other drivers safe.
