FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – A group of students in the Pee Dee is working together to help a classmate. Steve Camlin is a teacher with Florence School District One. He challenged his sixth graders to raise money for Owen Plasman, a student who is battling cancer for the second time. Camlin says he gave each of his 14 students $10, and challenged them to use that money to raise more funds to give to Owen’s family.
From putting on a show, to craft and baked good sales, Camlin says the students came up with creative ideas to collect money. At the end of a three-week period, he says the kids had turned the initial $140 into more than $3,500, showing both financial responsibility and kindness.
