NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) There’s app for just about everything these days, it’s hard to prioritize which ones are worth taking up space on your smartphones. News 8 is helping you stretch your dollar with a few free apps that can save both time and money,

Your smart phone can do it all, and if you’re using the right apps, it may even save you some money.

News 8’s own social media guru Vanessa Wojtusiak showed us some of her favorite money-saving apps starting with the Mint App that tracks her expenses for her.

“It gives you various alerts to see if you’re over spending in a month. You kind of designate how much you want to spend each month and it alerts you if you’re going over,” Wojtusiak said.

Then there’s the Shop Savvy app. For this one, you scan the barcode of an item, it shows you where you can find the best deal. We put it to the test by scanning an item many people have in their kitchen, K-cups! We scanned it and found 42 different places online selling the item and five different local stores, with 4 different prices. Right now Walmart has the lowest price for $9.98.

Grocery I-Q may help make tonight’s dinner a little less expensive, it basically clips the coupons for you so you don’t miss out on a good deal.

Retail Me Not lets you choose your favorite stores and it alerts you when there are deals.

Before you fill up your tank next, the Gas Buddy app can show you where you’ll pay the lowest price per gallon! A couple bucks here, a couple bucks there, may just ease some of your financial stress this year.

We talked about everyday expenses here, but if you have a good idea on how to save money or think you’re paying too much for something, let me know! Send me anemail and we’ll try to come up with a way for you to save.
