A grandmother used a ceramic chicken to fend off a 15 minute attack in which the female suspect was armed with a bra trying to strangle the older woman, police say.
The incident happened just after midnight earlier this week when a 61-year-old woman was alone in her Lexington home and a younger woman forced her way in.
31-year-old Ashley Sies is charged with first degree burglary after trying to strangle the home-owner with a bra during the wild attack that lasted for nearly 20 minutes, police said.
Police say she forced her way in to a home and fought with the homeowner.
The grandmother suffered bruises, scratches on her face and scrapes on her arms.
“I thought I was going to die that night,” said 61-year-old Patricia Leece, who talked with WKYT-TV a day after the frightening attack.
Sies faced a judge Tuesday afternoon after the bizarre attack, which started as a knock on Leece’s door.
“Someone came to my doors, banging, screaming and hollering.”
Leece says she unlocked the door because she thought it was her granddaughter — but it was actually Ashley Sies, police said.
Sies pushed her way inside, pulled out a clump of Leece’s hair and started choking her with a bra, police say.
“We fought for a good 15, 20 minutes. So finally I saw one of my chickens on the floor so I picked it up and started bashing her in the head with it.”
Leece was able to knock Sies out, then she called police.
Investigators say Sies appeared to be on drugs and she thought she was being followed when she showed up on Leece’s porch.
“She was going door to door hoping someone would let her in. Of course it was me,” Leece said.
Although still dealing with cuts and bruises, Leece says she’s just happy to be alive.
Sies pleaded not guilty to first degree burglary Tuesday and was appointed an attorney. She’ll be back in court on April 6th.
