MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Drivers who regularly take or travel in the area of International Drive may experience some delays starting Tuesday.

Horry County Director of Public Information Kelly Moore says traffic pattern changes will be implemented on the existing paved portion of International Drive, from west of the driveway of Horry County Fire Rescue Station 45 to the end of the paved road beginning Tuesday morning.

A paving project calls for the change, but Moore says the paving company will wait until school traffic subsides before beginning work Tuesday morning.

The plan involves reducing traffic to one through lane in each direction and closing the left and right turn lanes into the school driveways, Moore says.  The lane closures will switch to the opposite side of the road once the asphalt build-up is complete on the north end.

It’s anticipated that traffic from all three Horry County Schools along International Drive will be impacted. The turn lane closures will be in place for 24 hours a day for approximately one to two weeks, depending on the weather, Moore confirms.

To keep traffic moving through the work zone, the paving company will have flaggers at the school driveways and at Wheatfield Drive, near the entrance of The Farm, during daylight hours.

Drivers should expect delays during the road work. Message boards will be placed at both ends of the affected portion of International Drive to warn drivers of the upcoming change.
