Wings Over Myrtle Beach AirShow takes Veterans down memory lane

As thousands of families have already set up chairs surrounding the Market Common gearing up for the air show, there’s one group of people that feel the impact of this weekend on a personal level and it’s veterans.

News 13 caught up with some retired Navy veterans who say the sound of the fighter aircrafts and helicopters cause mixed emotions.

Melvin Burgess says he spent six years on the USS Nicholson on the Persian gulf as a navy officer, and that although it’s a happy weekend it can also trigger PTSD symptoms.

“Sometimes it gets kind of hectic when you hear the planes and you go back to war time and you think of all the friends you lost, it’s kind of upsetting but sometimes it’s beautiful.” Burgess said.
