MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The Myrtle Beach Air Show has been canceled for 2019.

According to a Facebook post from Wings Over Myrtle Beach Air Show, Horry County officials told air show officials on Aug. 21 that the show wouldn’t happen.

“Horry County and airport officials notified JLC Air Show Management on August 21 that the agreement to produce the scheduled 2019 Wings Over Myrtle Beach Air Show will not be approved,” the post reads.

The post gives an excerpt from Horry County’s notification letter, which reads:

“As the result of airfield constraints, anticipated construction projects, and other ongoing issues, please be advised that Horry County cannot consent to any airshow renewal options as contemplated in that Agreement for Professional Services between Horry County and JLC Airshow Management, LLC.”

JLC AirShow Management noted their disappointment in the cancellation of the show, originally planned for May 4-5, 2019. The show was set to feature the USAF Thunderbirds.

“Team JLC would like to say THANK-YOU to the Myrtle Beach and Horry County community that worked so hard to make the 2018 air show a successful event,” the post concludes.

Horry County Councilman District 4, Gary Loftus who is the head of the transportation committee says the management company wasn’t willing to work with any other date than the first week of May.

“We simply said we can’t do it then because we have had this construction and rehab scheduled for quite some time,  and the airlines have adjusted their schedules to accommodate for the construction so we have to do it another weekend and they said we can’t do it another weekend.” said Loftus.
