MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – With a federal judge’s decision to allow the City of Myrtle Beach to implement the 23-mile traffic loop during Memorial Day weekend, here’s what visitors and locals need to know about the change.
The NAACP held a press conference Thursday morning at 11 a.m. to address the organization’s expectations and what leaders will monitor during the Memorial Day weekend.
When will the traffic loop be in effect?
Friday, May 25 – Sunday, May 27 from 10 p.m. – 2 a.m.
Where is the Myrtle Beach traffic loop?
All traffic on Ocean Boulevard will be one-way – southbound – from 29th Avenue North to South Kings Highway.
Access to Ocean Blvd. begins on Kings Highway at 29th Ave. North. The loop runs along Harrelson Boulevard, leading into Highway 501 then heads north via Carolina Bays / Highway 31. The loop concludes on Grissom Parkway connecting to the 17 Bypass at 29th Avenue North.
Are locals or car drivers allowed to bypass the traffic loop?
No. All traffic will be funneled into the loop and will be one-way, southbound. Northbound lanes are reserved for emergency vehicles only.
What about golf carts and mopeds?
No golf carts will be permitted south of 29th Avenue North on Ocean Blvd. Golf cart use will be restricted to side streets only, south of 3rd Ave. South. Mopeds are prohibited on Ocean Blvd. from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. each night between May 24 – 28 until all barriers are removed from Ocean Blvd.
