Authorities ask drivers to avoid the area.

A car crash on SC 707 damaged a utility pole and left about 2,500 homes without power early Wednesday morning. The car hit a pole and flipped over into a pond at about 2:30 a.m., according to Horry County Fire Rescue. The driver showed no injuries, signing a waiver for medical transport.

Power has been restored to about 2,500 customers affected, according to Horry Electric Cooperative.

A 65-foot double circuit pole was broken in the wreck. “Pole replacement is a minimum four-hour job,” Horry Electric reported. “They were able to backfeed from another source and restore power to all but two of the nearly 2500 members initially impacted by the outage”
