In South Carolina, it may be bigger than the super bowl.

Of course, we’re talking about this weekend’s football game between the University of South Carolina and Clemson.

One area student is going for free, all because of reading.

Kayla Kiser is one of two South Carolina students who won the State Department of Education’s “Read Your Way to the Big Game” contest. She’ll represent Clemson on Saturday.

Kiser is a student at Ten Oaks Middle School in Carolina Forest. She read more than six books since August at her grade level, which entered her in for the grand prize of tickets to Saturday’s game.

“Awesome, I’m so proud of her. And, I think it’s awesome that she won. And,  then of course it’s just going to light a fire under everyone else to start reading, so that’s the best part,” said Cathy Zielinksi, Kiser’s teacher.

Both Kiser and her teacher were shocked at the surprise. Neither knew she won until this morning.

Kiser will get four tickets to the game along with pre-game sideline passes

On Monday, a Charleston student was picked to represent the Gamecocks.
